It is a big day for the hemp industry in Wisconsin! Today is the first day that new growers and processors are eligible to apply for licenses to participate in the 2019 hemp season. Unlike 2018, in which applications were accepted into late spring, people who would like to be licensed for 2019 must complete their applications by March 1, 2019 (DATCP has extended this deadline; the original deadline was December 31 of this year). Applications will not be accepted after that date. Spread the word.
For more information about what it takes to apply, please go to the DATCP website. Our friends at DATCP have built an easy, user-friendly system for applying, including an optional e-filing option.
In other big news, the Wisconsin Hemp Alliance has launched its website. Take a look: www.wihemp.org. We will continue to build the site and add useful information for you. If you have any suggestions, let us know.
One of our favorite features of our website is a free (at least for now) forum for people to connect to collaborate, share information, and get questions answered. You have to sign up for a username, which we had to do to keep the spam bots at bay, but otherwise there are no hurdles to participating. Give it a try.
There are also a few educational opportunities coming up that you may want to consider. First, there will be a Hemp Workshop and Panel at the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in Wisconsin Dells on December 2nd. Also, the Central Wisconsin Hemp Expo is coming up on November 17, 2018 in Marshfield.
