9/8/19 Update

September 8, 2019

It has been a busy summer in the hemp world. We have heard from many of you that your hemp is maturing and you are looking forward to a good harvest. Note that DATCP has added information about what you can expect when you call for your THC compliance test, so it is worth taking another look at their website. Also, DATCP is requiring growers to harvest their crop within 10 days of testing this year, which has generated quite a bit of concern, so make sure that you are prepared to harvest.

Wisconsin Hemp Legislation
The legislation that had been called “Hemp 2.0” is moving its way through the State Legislature (see our Update from April about this bill). Following the development of a compromise amendment with various law enforcement groups relating to impaired driving, the bill was passed out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue and Financial Institutions on a unanimous vote, which is great news for its prospects moving forward. the next step is for the full Senate to take up the bill. Then, the process must be repeated in the Assembly before the bill goes to the Governor’s desk for approval.

Federal Crop Insurance
The USDA has announced that hemp crop insurance coverage will be available for 2020. this is a big step forward for our industry.
