The first outdoor hemp crop harvest under the new hemp pilot program is in full swing. Some of you have reported that there have been challenges associated with the recent unprecedented rainfall in many areas of the state. Like any crop, Mother Nature has a lot to say about farming success. Maybe more so with hemp because of the unavailability of crop insurance. With the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation and many others, we are keeping a close eye on the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill which, if passed in the form adopted in the Senate, would make crop insurance available for hemp crops.
